May 12, 2005: New Home Office Ministers

The new Home Office ministerial team was officially announced today, following the post election reshuffle. Working to Home Secretary Charles Clarke, three teams of ministers will deliver on three key pillars of responsibility:

Hazel Blears is minister for policing, security and community safety. Her responsibilities include:

• Police
• Counter terrorism
• Crime reduction
• Anti social behaviour
• Community safety and active citizenship

Paul Goggins is Parliamentary under Secretary supporting Hazel Blears, with particular responsibility for:

• Serious and organised crime
• Drugs
• Asset Recovery Agency
• Security Industry Authority
• Public order, sex offences, roads policing, animal extremism, internet crime, child pornography and football disorder
• Voluntary and community sectors, community cohesion, faith and race equality

Baroness Scotland is Minister for criminal justice and offender management. Her responsibilities include:

• National Offender Management Service (including prisons and probation)
• Youth justice
• Sentencing policy
• Domestic violence
• Confidence in the Criminal Justice System

Fiona Mactaggart is Parliamentary under Secretary supporting Patricia Scotland, with particular responsibility for:

• CJ system including race, victims and witnesses, inspection and IT
• Criminal law
• National Offender Management Service casework and restorative justice
• Criminal injuries compensation
• Criminal Cases Review Commission
• Prostitution

Tony McNulty is Minister for immigration, citizenship and nationality. His responsibilities include:

• Immigration
• Asylum
• Nationality, naturalisation and citizenship

Andy Burnham is Parliamentary under Secretary supporting Tony McNulty, with particular responsibility for:

• ID cards and passports
• Forensic Science Service
• Refugee integration
• E borders
• Extradition and judicial cooperation
• Criminal Records Bureau
